STRENGTHS: Friendly, genuine, optimist
WEAKNESSES: Insecure, pushover, dim
OVERVIEW: If you could say only one thing about Lucinda, it’s that she has the biggest, warmest heart. She is a people person, for sure, and absolutely thrives off of those around her. She is a wonderful friend, a good listener and an objective advice-giver, who is consoling, caring, and all around pleasant to be with. She is very genuine in her sentiments, and dislikes very few people. With a big smile and an outstretched hand, she’ll introduce herself to most anyone, and doesn’t judge on first impression. Many people are puzzled by her pure attitude, but they soon lose their doubts and realize that she truly is just a very nice person.
Always the optimist, Lucy will look on the bright side of a problem, or always try to find a silver lining for you. Nothing makes her happier than making other people happy, which is why she rarely discusses her own problems, even with her best friends. Despite her happy-go-lucky attitude, Lucy’s life is far from easy- she just chooses to burden as few people as possible with her insecurities. Unlike her mother and father, both former Ravenclaws, Lucy is not book smart. In general, she’s not exceptionally intelligent. Though she is magical, and definitely not a squib, her wandwork was never up to par, her potions never turned out right, and she couldn’t memorize arithmancy equations or dates for History of Magic if her life depended on it.
Because her own handicaps are so obvious to her, she is very sure not to judge others based on their weaknesses. Her troubles in school only added to her self-esteem issues, which are prominent to her daily. However, she is quick to put on a smile. Many people don’t know her struggles with self-image and self-esteem. What she lacks in brains she makes up for in basic morals- she is a kind, loving soul, and she tries to help others to be so too.

OVERVIEW: Emmeline Vance and Caradoc Dearborn had been best friends as long as they could remember. They grew up alongside each other in the town of Tinworth, their families being close. They built sandcastles on the shore, explored the nearby woods, even made up their own little club of which they were co-presidents- the sort of things that best friends did at that age. Then they went off to Hogwarts and started growing up. When that happened, everything started to change. Emmeline found herself falling pathetically in love with her best friend, who was starting to have feeling for her as well, though they were reserved. Caradoc didn’t think that a relationship with Emmeline was a good idea. They’d been friends for such a long time, that starting to date seemed dangerous. The last thing he wanted was to risk her friendship- so he found Dorcas Meadowes. Emmeline was crushed, but she knew she couldn’t stay hung up on Caradoc forever. She started to date like a normal person, and tried her hardest to get over her friend (which was difficult, because they still spent so much time together).
Freshly out of Hogwarts, Dorcas and Caradoc started having problems. Caradoc loved her, but he wanted to be able to experience the world. Dorcas was jealous that he had left Hogwarts, for she wanted to leave with him, even though she still had two years left at the establishment. No one was surprised when Emmeline and Caradoc started living together. They were both Aurors in the same department and newly recruited members to the Order of the Phoenix- it only made sense that they should split the cost of the apartment. Tensions were running high, however. Caradoc’s feelings for Emmeline were starting to grow again. Emmeline had just started to give up on him, when one night (after going out for cocktails with some coworkers) the pair found themselves falling into bed together.
The next morning was torture. Both parties realized that their love had been blind. Their physical chemistry was horrible, and the previous night hadn’t been as much about love as it had been about experimentation and false expectations. They’d hit a wall, realizing that their friendship was very strong, thus easily confused with feelings deeper. Both parties were extremely embarrassed, and spent about a month apart, Emmeline going to live with her mother and father in Godric’s Hollow. During this time, Caradoc found his way back to Dorcas. Both Emmeline and Caradoc decided that it was best no one knew about their one-night stand.
Unfortunately, that was no longer an option. Morning sickness is even worse when you know that the child is the product of a horrible memory. Emmeline broke the news of her pregnancy to Caradoc shortly after the pair began living together again, and it was a very difficult week. The pair had to decide what to do. It was completely against Emmeline’s morals to ‘dispose’ of the pregnancy, and she refused to even consider the option. She, with difficulty, told Caradoc that she would be keeping the child, with or without his support. Caradoc, initially, was furious. He was angry at himself for allowing something like this to happen, and extremely worried at how Dorcas would react (as the pair had started going strong again).
Emmeline moved out of the apartment permanently, taking up residence by herself on Diagon Alley. Because she still loved him as her best friend (despite his childish actions and sentiments), she lied. Because she frequently travelled for her work, she made up a story about a one-night stand with a man in France. It was a hard thing to do, because Emmeline was not the sort of person to fall into bed with a stranger. She knew that people were whispering, and she tried her best to ignore them. Being taken out of the fieldwork of her job was crushing for her, as she was a known workaholic who lived for her job. Desk work killed her, and she requested a long-term leave of absence.
Emmeline gave birth to a little girl in St. Mungo’s, naming her Lucinda, which means ‘light’, and Charity, after Emmeline’s mother. Lucinda truly was a light in her mother’s life. Soon, the little girl became the center of her mother’s world. Emmeline loved the child with all of her heart, and raised her to treat others with respect and love. Caradoc was present in Lucy’s life, but Emmeline and his relationship was forever changed at the way he acted during her pregnancy. Emmeline was six when Caradoc proposed to Dorcas, and the pair married when she was eight. Caradoc never told Dorcas the truth about Emmeline’s pregnancy, and Emmeline stayed silent, but it was difficult. Dorcas was known for being a loud-mouthed gossip, and never spared Emmeline once. To Dorcas, Emmeline was an easy whore, who didn’t know contraceptives from candy.
Emmeline, so turned off by both her friend and his wife, was especially careful in raising her daughter. She never wanted her daughter to experience the hate that Emmeline herself felt, and she wanted her daughter to be a kind, caring soul, who was accepting of all people. Mother and daughter were extremely close, each other’s best friends, each other’s confidants. When Lucinda was eleven, and before she went to Hogwarts, Emmeline finally revealed who her father was. Lucinda had always wanted to know, but knew the subject was painful for her mother. Caradoc had been in and out of her life, but Emmeline was still reserved. Lucinda sensed this, and even after finding out that she was his flesh and blood, wanted little to do with the man. Her mother was her idol and role model; she didn’t need a father.
In Hogwarts, Lucy was sorted into Hufflepuff. She found it very easy to make friends because she’d become a very bright, bubbly personality. She immersed herself in a social life, learning right off the bat that her years at Hogwarts would be difficult and frustrating. Aside from her very private family problems and matters, Lucinda was very insecure about her smarts. She tried to make the torturous task of studying fun by making new friends in the library. By her third and fourth years, she was well known as the friendliest girl in Hogwarts, a genuinely nice person who wouldn’t judge. Many people knew she was a huge pushover, and made fun of her. She pretended to pay them no mind, but their words hurt.
She dated a few boys, but never really had much of a presence with them. She was fiercely aware of her image, and had very little self-esteem for herself and her body. In her seventh year, Lucy developed a multitude of eating disorders. She would evade eating as long as she could, until she couldn’t any longer. When that happened, binging followed, shortly after by purging. She kept these problems a secret from her friends, always pretending to study during meal times, and going to ‘shower’ at odd times of day.
Escaping Hogwarts was a huge relief for Lucinda. Everything seemed to be going perfectly for her. She hadn’t been out of school two days before someone approached her on Diagon Alley with an audition opportunity. Being a very petite, pretty young woman, he offered her an audition for Witch Weekly magazine. It was an excellent opportunity for her because she’d been worrying about what to do with her life after school ended. Not finishing well in her OWLs or NEWTs, she felt she had few options. Her mother, always supportive, encouraged her to go to the audition, pushing aside Lucinda’s worries about what her life would become like if she became a ‘model’. Emmeline assured her that she wouldn’t lose her heart, and that she should stick to her guns.
She was offered a position as a regular model instantly after her audition. Lucinda was extremely excited and happy, as was her mother. Deciding to live at home after Hogwarts, the two remained closer than ever. Not three weeks later, when Emmeline was murdered on duty for the order, Lucinda was devastated and beside herself. She was only seventeen, and now completely alone. She arranged her mother’s funeral by herself, aided by Emmeline’s only living relative, her mother and Lucinda’s namesake, Charity. Caradoc, whose relationship with Emmeline had never truly healed, came to the wake, without Dorcas. Lucinda showed him no pity, sympathy, or love- which was very uncharacteristic of her. Her large heart simply had no space for the man who had so crushed her mother, and who still hadn’t told his wife of nine years that he had a child.
Now, three years later, Lucinda’s life has fallen back to normalcy. She will always miss her mother, and thinks of her every day, but she’s found a pattern in her days and is happy. A subtly, but very, private person, few people know of the woes of Lucy’s family background, and (she thinks) no one knows about her lingering issues with eating and self-image. However, she is becoming more and more successful at the magazine by modeling in every issue. Somewhat of a celebrity, Lucy tries to remain out of the spotlight, like she knew her mother would have wanted her to. Instead, she’s requested to write some pieces for the magazine, and has even had a few published! Ever realistic, she knows that she can’t stay a model forever, and is planning a steady future. Single, and living in her childhood home in Godric’s Hollow, Lucy has only just begun.
