OVERVIEW: Katie is generally a friendly person. Optimistic, upbeat and welcoming, she’s a social creature who loves talking and does so a lot. She has no problem opening up to people, even if she’s known them for only a few minutes, and one of the few things that can stop her mouth is stopping for breath. That doesn’t mean she goes around telling people’s secrets to everyone either, though – she is trustworthy, and while she might sometimes let things slip that she should rather have kept to herself, she is smart enough to know that some things are better not shared with just anyone. If someone earns her trust, though, which isn’t very difficult to do, she might spill more than she should as she honestly believes that there is some good in everyone and that people in general are worth trusting.
Those traits might make her seem childish or immature, but she does honestly have a good heart – and she doesn’t act foolishly either. When it comes to working, whether it is work, sports or anything else she considers important, she’s determined and rational and makes sure to keep cool so she won’t be distracted. She’s not the type to leap before looking either and makes sure not to get into unnecessary trouble. The exception to this is when dealing with something she’s passionate about. If a cause is worth fighting for, she will do so despite her common sense, but she makes sure to keep a level head nonetheless. When not passionate about something, though, she does sometimes get a bit lazy and has a tendency to procrastinate a great deal. Working under pressure works well for her, though, and she rarely fails to deliver.
Katie is fiercely loyal, bordering on downright needy, and is not at all good at letting go of people. If she argues with a friend, she will always be the first to apologize, unable to stay angry with them for even a day. She absolutely loathes conflicts, though, and generally avoids them at all costs, perfectly willing to compromise if she has to even if she honestly believes herself to be right. Even though she’s a happy and cheerful person, she is not at all confident, and seeks almost constant validation from those closest to her. She has a problem with criticism as well and is easily upset if friends or family tell her she’s done something wrong. Even then, though, her optimistic attitude causes her to bounce back quickly, and she will do whatever she can do change what she’s done wrong.

OVERVIEW: Matthew Bell and Linda Cershen came to Hogwarts the same year, and it did not take long for them to discover they had a lot in common. They were both half-blood Gryffindors and shared a passion for two things – Quidditch and Defense Against the Dark Arts. They were inseparable from the start, and nobody was surprised when they started dating in their sixth year. Equally unsurprising was their engagement three years later and subsequent marriage. Everything seemed perfect, and despite their financial difficulties, they were genuinely happy. Linda’s pregnancy did nothing to change that, and although they needed some monetary help from their families, all was well.
Katie was always treated like a princess, having been the first grandchild of both pairs of grandparents and the joy of her parents’ lives. In fact, she had a terrific childhood, and her worst problems included being picked up an hour late from school one day and a mild concussion from falling down from a tree when she was seven. Being as young as she was, she did not realize that their financial situation was quickly getting worse because her father had taken to gambling. This was all kept hidden from the little girl, though, and even when she went to Hogwarts for the first time at the age of eleven, she had no idea that her parents were going through a rough patch.
Katie was sorted into Gryffindor, and soon made some friends in the year above her. They were all very much into Quidditch, and even though she had never been very interested in it before, Katie became determined to make the team the following year. Now, the Bell family’s financial issues could have gotten out of hand and threatened to tear the family apart, causing Katie to have far more important things on her mind than Quidditch, but as fate would have it, it did not. Katie, still blissfully unaware that anything had ever been wrong, received a letter from her mother late December that same year regarding Linda’s new Ministry job. Once again, things were going quite well.
In her second year, Katie did indeed make the Gryffindor Quidditch team as a chaser, and become quite the player during the next few years. She grew close to all her teammates and developed friendships in other houses as well, the main exception being Slytherin. All in all, life was quite normal… well, despite the impending return of the Dark Lord and the strange events taking place all over the Wizarding World. She joined Dumbledore’s Army in her sixth year to learn to defend herself, but in her seventh year, something happened to make all the defense against dark magic she had learned seem quite useless.
Whilst on a trip to Hogsmeade, Katie was put under the Imperius curse by Draco Malfoy and given a package containing cursed necklace which she was supposed to give to the headmaster. Fortunately for Dumbledore and unfortunately for her, the package had ripped and she came in contact with the necklace itself, causing her terrible pain. For the next sixth months, she was more or less permanently stuck in the hospital wing, but recovered in time for her exams and the final Quidditch match against Ravenclaw. That did not mean the dramatic events in her life were over, though – Dumbledore was killed at the end of the year, and the following year marked the year of the Second Wizarding War, during which she assisted the Order and later returned to Hogwarts to help fight Voldemort and the Death Eaters.
Since then, she has tried to readjust to an ordinary life and is finding it difficult. She has considered trying out for a Quidditch team, but isn’t entirely sure if she wants to, so instead, she works as a reporter and waits for things to settle down.

RP SAMPLE: It felt like Mina had been in a hurry all day, even though that wasn’t really the case. It had been a long night, mostly because she had managed to forget that she had a meeting this morning. Well, all right, not morning, but noon was certainly early enough. Fortunately, she hadn’t gotten herself completely wasted, so she had been able to getup without any major difficulties when the alarm went off, but she had to admit she had felt better in her life. Two cups of black coffee and a quick shower helped her feel better pretty fast, though, and she was out of the hotel not even a minute too late, with only a mild headache. The meeting had gone fairly well, so with any luck, the band would have another sponsor soon. It wasn’t a matter of lots of money, though, so she wasn’t too fussed about it. That only made having to get up early for the meeting feel like more of a waste. Like most other problems these days, she got rid of those negative thoughts with another cup of coffee before heading back to the hotel.
The clock struck three just as she entered the lobby, and she paused to chat with one of the crew members for a few minutes. When the girl started talking about how totally hot the guys in the band were, though, she excused herself (by rolling her eyes and saying she really wasn’t interested in hearing it right now) and went back up to her room. It would be great to get a moment to herself, maybe put on some more comfortable clothes and watch TV or something. Of course, there were still things to be done, calls to be made and documents to be looked through, but that could be put off for another hour, couldn’t it? Some of the people who had been out last night probably wouldn’t be up until later than that anyway, and she felt like she’d earned the right to relax for a bit now. Okay, that wasn’t entirely true. Mina wasn’t really the type of person who felt like she had the right to relax until all the work she needed to do was done. She just didn’t have the willpower to beat herself up about that right now either.
With a sigh, she removed her hairband, letting her dark hair fall freely around her shoulder. She then took off her coat and looked over at the mirror, studying her body for a second. Being happy with their bodies wasn’t something a lot of women did well, but most of the time, Mina didn’t have too much of a problem with hers. Sure, there were certain things she might want to change or improve or fix, but there were also a lot of things she was quite happy about, so she didn’t feel the need to be overly critical. Once she finished looking at herself, she bit her lip gently, glanced around the room, and then sat down on the bed. The thing she loved most about hotels was that she would always come back to clean sheets in the afternoon without having to do any housekeeping herself. Housekeeping was something she absolutely hated, partly because there were always better things to be doing and partly because it was irrationally boring. Honestly, she wouldn’t mind just staying at hotels all the time. The whole “there’s no place like home” thing meant nothing to her.
Once she’d sorted out the pillows in a more comfortable manner, she leaned backwards on them and curled up, soon turning onto her side. She closed her eyes for a moment, quite aware that she’d probably fall asleep if she stayed in that position for too long. However, she did not have the opportunity to do so, because after only a few minutes, she heard someone knock on the door.
