It was early afternoon on Saturday, the one time of the week that Jasper was not cooped up inside the Ministry, taking his Unspeakables training courses. Normally he would stay in his flat instead, catching up on some much-needed sleep. But on this particular day, he had woken up earlier than expected, and felt the urge to gather up a few new books to immerse himself in. Since he no longer had the Hogwarts library at his disposal, he now had to use his own scarce amount of gold to purchase novels.

Some people might just give up reading all together to conserve resources, but for Jasper that was not a considerable option. He needed to have the escape of reading, otherwise he would surely become bored out of his mind. His own life was so dull and drab, he needed to find a way to get some excitement through a different outlet. But, of course, this was no one but his own fault. After all, he was the one he kept his own self from really, truly living, out of fear and cynicism.

Still, he was a creature of habit, and could not break his ways. And so he found himself lost within the many book-stacked shelves inside the vast store, searching idly for something that might catch his eye. The place was swarming with students, probably buying supplies for their next term at Hogwarts, the nearby school or magic. He remembered his own days within that castle, lost in his own little world. There were some memories of which he was fond, and others not so much. Either way, he was just glad that he had received an education, and come of age, so that he no longer had to return to that dreadful orphanage each summer.

Running a hand through his thick blond curls, Jasper tried to focus on picking out a novel, any one that might interest him even slightly. But as usual, he felt the many eyes lingering upon him -- this time from a group of what looked like seventeen year-old girls, all giggling and gaggling at the sight of him. Back turned to them, he rolled his own deep blue orbs in exasperation, trying to forget they were there. However, his efforts at this were foiled, when one girl came up to him. He wasn't sure whether it was one of the foolish groupies, but he could definitely sense there was someone approaching him from behind.

There was nothing better than a good book to read on a Saturday afternoon. Of course, Hayden wasn't the type to read that much, so he didn't own any. Her parents weren't the type either, well her mother was......but that was typical of a Ravenclaw. But Lena would rather die than let anyone know who she was named after. Helena Ravenclaw. Rowena Ravenclaw's daughter.

That's why Lena was in Flourish and Blotts on a Saturday. No Slytherin in their right mind would be in a bookstore. On a Saturday! So when she walked in, the Slytherin was terribly surprised to see a group of seventeen-year-olds staring at no one other than Jasper Flint. He had looks, but Lena doubted he had personality. She didn't know him that well, except for the fact that he had been friends with her brother. Who was only a year older than her, but whatever.

A smirk appeared on her face as she began to walk toward him, her brown eyes sparkling mischeviously. Perhaps Lena could scare him? She had quiet footsteps, due to the fact that she was wearing flip-flops. It was summer after all. The time for blue tank tops and white shorts, like what she was wearing.

Lena abruptly grabbed his shoulders, hoping to scare him a bit. The Slytherin was the type of girl to attempt scaring people she barely knew, but she had heard rumours about him. He was a former Slytherin, after all, and there had been times that she had lusted after him. But that was before, not now. "Nice to see you again, Flint." Lena said, her smirk becoming more pronounced as she looked him over.

Unfortunately for his attacker, Jasper didn't even flinch, when he felt a pair of delicate, most definitely female hands grab his broad shoulders out of the blue. A low, quiet sort of laugh escaped from his lips, almost resembling a growl. It was a rare, but seductive sound, for he did not often find humor in most circumstances, but this just so happened to be slightly amusing to him.

Before he even turned to lay eyes upon the girl who had attempted to give him a fright, the young man was sure of who it was: Helena, the younger sister of his school friend, Hayden. Just the sound of her rather smug voice prompted recognition, and also a small half-smile, half-smirk from him, which lingered upon his handsome features. "Well, well, who do we have here?" He stated ominously just before turning to face the younger witch, though he was clearly aware of who she was.

Blue-eyed gaze resting upon her face, with the half-smile, half-smirk still tugging on his lips, Jasper crossed his arms and stated in a mock tone of surprise, "If it isn't the little Montague girl, out for a scare-fest on innocent bystanders. My, hasn't she grown -- I daresay she's not so little any longer." He was teasing her the slightest bit -- something that he didn't normally do with anyone, much less women. However, he liked Helena more than he did most people. She was decent, not mindless and intent on wooing him, like so many others of her sex which he'd come in contact with. And, he had to admit, the summer months had been good to her.

Of course, he hadn't known her all that well, even during his years at Hogwarts. In fact, he probably wouldn't have known her at all, if she wasn't the younger sibling of Hayden Montague, a boy he'd been fairly close with back during school. They'd been in the same house and year, and had shared some of the same thoughts on the world, so naturally a bond of friendship had formed over time. However, he hadn't seen either of the Montagues since graduating, so this was a pleasant encounter. Better than having to face the oh-so-dreaded fangirls nearby, who were now eyeing Helena jealously.

Vaguely, he wondered if Hayden might be around, simply because his sister happened to be. It wasn't likely, but Jasper figured he'd ask anyway, just for something to mention. Even so, he wouldn't mind talking to his friend, just to see what was happening. He might've seemed like an entirely cold person, but that wasn't completely true for everyone. "What brings you to this particular shoppe, then, Miss Montague? School shopping, I assume?" He smirked slightly, then inquired, "Speaking of which, might you have dragged your dear older brother along as well?"

A small expression of disappointment was visible on her face, as Jasper hadn't exactly jumped or anything of the sort. Lena hadn't expected him to anyway, as he was the tall, dark, and handsome type. The kind who everyone wanted, but nobody ever did get him. She had recently read a muggle book, Twilight, and she could say with confidence that Jasper Flint reminded her of Edward Cullen.

Taking her hands off his shoulders, they returned to Lena's side as she felt the waistband of her pants for her wand. It was an odd place to put a wand, yes, but also safe. It was Hayden who had told her that, and she trusted him. "I'm only one year younger than you, you know. So if I'm 'little', you aren't exactly 'big.'" She said this while looking him over, the sight of his arms and torso making her a bit uncertain. Jasper was almost a head taller than Lena, and more muscular, but not like those obsessed weight-lifting people.

"And you don't look that innocent to me..." Lena added, looking between him and the group of girls pointedly. They were giving her stares, because she was talking to him, so she gave them a look that said 'back off, bitches.' A smug smile replacing her smirk, the Slytherin looked back at the eighteen-year-old.

"Y-yeah...school shopping." Lena lied, not knowing that her face was turning red. He didn't actually know, did he? She was just going to go with what he said, to be safe. "I'm very sorry, Mr. Flint, but my 'dear old brother' is off doing who knows what with his fan club." the Slytherin responded in a voice that did not seem sorry at all, after she had regained herself from her lie. "Unlike you." Lena pointed out, feeling the need to say that.

Lena tried to catch his blue gaze with her brown eyes, a feat that was impossible for even the likes of Malfoy.

Raising an eyebrow ever-so-slightly, the attractive wizard felt a slight smile linger on his lips at her words -- they were ones she didn't seen quite so sure of, while obviously eyeing his muscled figure, which was evident beneath his plain, form-fitting t-shirt. The girl had a much slighter, more feminine figure than he did, and thank God for that. Truthfully, he found overly buff women to be rather creepy -- not intimidating, but simply creepy.

Taking a small step toward the witch before him, just so that he towered over a bit more, Jasper held her dark eyes with an intense deep ocean-blue gaze of his own. "Ah, but you see, sometimes a year can make all the difference in the world." Crossing his arms over his chest, he smirked down at her, barely suppressing a laugh at the somewhat vicious, pointed look she sent to his gathering fans. He had to admit, he admired her spunk.

At Helena's comment on his lack of innocence, the training Unspeakable flashed a full-fledged, toothy smile. It didn't last long, but for a moment, it was there, and it was dazzling. "But wouldn't you agree, looks can be deceiving?" He responded easily, voice smooth as honey. "I would bet that behind those big, dark chocolate eyes is the mind of a very devious woman." By now, most of the female persuasion would have melted into a puddle on the floor. For this was a side of Jasper that many were not privileged to see: the charmer. And he was quite skilled at it, too. During his rare good moods, he morphed into someone who could effortlessly bewitch the opposite sex.

Oftentimes he didn't see the point in being charming as he could, since people were so dull and unable to keep up. But Helena he found interesting. Not in a romantic way, exactly, but just in terms of conversation. She was not so foolish and giggly as all the other girls he met, but actually could hold an intelligent chat, without being intimidated by him. It was refreshing, in a way. Part of the reason she was tolerable to be around.

For her sake, Jasper let slide the fact that her face was reddening, and did not immediately swoop down on it as he normally would've. Instead, he chuckled softly at her choice of words on her brother's whereabouts. "I see, then. Well, he never was one to disappoint admirers." The usual confident smirk evident on his features, he added fluently, "I myself find them to be completely and utterly dull. Who wants to become involved with those who are so insecure that they must infatuate themselves with others?" He rolled his eyes slightly, pointedly stating his own views on people like the groupies nearby. Much to his satisfaction, they scattered somewhat, obviously having heard him. The blond had figured they'd been listening in.

Jasper took a step toward Lena, confusing her momentarily. But then she realized he was looking down at her, making her seem powerless. The Slytherin, in return, took a step back. "How exactly? A height difference? Intelligence? Muscular differences?" she asked him, looking at him pointedly when she asked the last one. "Besides, I'll be eighteen in a few months." Lena was one of the older ones of her year, being born in December. Between Christmas and New Years, on the 30th. She didn't know when Jasper's birthday was, but she was very certain that it was in the spring or summer months. He didn't seem like a Capricorn...or a winter. No matter how cold or cruel he seemed to be, at a first glance.

And then Jasper gave her one of those rare smiles that girls would die for. His words made her both smile and wonder if he was flirting with her or not, as that would not be a good idea. Lena had gotten in a good amount of trouble with one of her brother's friends already, and she felt it would not be a good idea to repeat it. "And I would bet behind those cruel, emotionless blue eyes is a very...big...softy." she replied, poking him with the last three words.

Lena wasn't one to be shy around people she kind of knew. Only around people she did not know at all, and even then, it would still depend on the person. Jasper Flint, for example, seemed to be in a mood to talk to her so she wasn't going to be all that shy. If he was doing his whole 'moody' look, then she wasn't even going to bother looking at him. It annoyed her, at times, how excluding he was of others. He needed to let people in, at times, and think 'outside of the box.' Even Edward Cullen did that much.

"I'll have you know, Mr. Flint, that the female gender is unable to even walk to the bathroom alone." Lena stated confidentally, knowing he'd agree. He had insulted the group right to their faces, which was not a good move on his part. No matter how annoying they were. "How, exactly, do you expect them to stare at an appealing member of the opposite gender alone?" she asked him. The Slytherin had just complimented him, and put down her own gender. Lena wasn't trying to defend the group of girls, but was trying to make a point. "Not everyone is as brave as me, Flint." she added, her smile turning into a smirk.
